AbstractEveryone knows what is meant by the fundamental theorem of algebra: The field of complex numbers is algebraically closed. In other words, any polynomial with complex coefficients can be written as a product of linear factors with complex coefficients. My goal in this half hour is to convince you that a different theorem deserves the name.
